Community, Parent, School and Student

About Us

COMPASS Unity is in its infancy, formed in the fall of 2009. When COMPASS is fully developed, there will be representation from various sectors of the community including youth, parents, the business community, media, schools, youth-serving organizations, law enforcement, religious organizations, civic/volunteer groups, healthcare professionals, and agencies and organizations involved in reducing substance abuse.

In the late 1990’s, the South Country Efficiency Coalition was formed in order to expand and coordinate services. Membership included community members, agencies and school personnel. In 2009, the Suffolk Coalition to Prevent Drug and Alcohol Dependencies (SCPADD) assisted the Efficiency Coalition and the South Country School District to apply for a federal grant through SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services). The application was successful, and at the completion of the two-year grant period, SCPADD will assist COMPASS Unity to apply for a Drug Free Community (DFC) grant.

The DFC grant is a five year grant that is renewable for an additional five years. These grants will bring significant resources to our communities that we can use to create programs, provide education, and add services.
